Rats have long been the bitter enemy of men. They destroy agricultural produce and goods, and invade human residence, thus having negative effects on economy both directly and indirectly. The direct damage is obvious as rats destroy the fruit and plant, while it is cultivated, stored, being transported, or even in the manufacturing process. Rats bring about damage in every step from the production to the delivery. Apart from that, other consuming products are destroyed as well.
Rats are carriers of several human and animal epidemics, including leptosprirosis, plague, yersiniosis, digestive disease, etc. As for the indirect damage, rats use their teeth, which are constantly sharpened, to gnaw on parts of building structure and house, appliances, cables and electric equipment, causing a great loss. The damaged wires may spark and lead to fire, an incident that not only undermines trust and reputation among clients, but also cost lives and properties. Besides, rats dig holes in the ground under buildings or levees, making the buildings subside, or making river banks sink. Those living inside sewer may obstruct the water flow. Such destruction costs greatly each year. The presence of rats signifies the low standards of hygiene and sanitation of a place.
